A Limited Edition Celebrating the 68th Anniversary of the Nation’s Independence
Breitling introduces the Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 Malaysia Edition, a limited release of just 68 pieces created to mark Malaysia’s 68th year of independence. Conceived as a tribute to the nation’s identity, this exclusive edition blends symbolic colours with refined watchmaking details.
The watch features a dark blue sunray-brushed dial inspired by the blue of Malaysia’s national flag, a colour long associated with harmony and unity. A matching dark blue rehaut adds depth to the composition while drawing attention to the model’s most distinctive element: Eastern Arabic numerals.
“Malaysia holds a special place in Breitling’s story in Southeast Asia,” explains Alvin Soon, President of Breitling Asia. “With this Malaysia Edition, we aimed to create a timepiece that not only celebrates 68 years of independence, but also reflects the country’s unique character—its diversity, resilience, and forward-looking spirit. The Eastern Arabic numerals, deep blue dial, and warm red-gold accents embody a balance of tradition and contemporary sophistication that is distinctly Malaysian.”
Applied to both the hour markers and the date disc, the Eastern Arabic numerals underscore Malaysia’s multicultural heritage and its cultural connections within the wider Islamic world. Crafted in 18-carat red gold, the indices, hands, and Breitling logo bring warmth and elegance to the dial, while the yellow GMT inscription and red-tipped GMT hand introduce a dynamic contrast, subtly echoing the red and yellow tones of the Jalur Gemilang.
The New Chronomat Automatic GMT 40 keeps the same design of the previous edition, as Breitling’s tribute to travel, it boasts a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter and 11.77 mm in height, with cambered sapphire crystal and anti-glare coating on both sides. The unidirectional stainless-steel bezel, along with a fluted, dome-shaped onion crown, enhances ease of use and timeless appeal. The solid, screwed caseback ensures water resistance to 200 meters, combining durability with refined style.
The New Chronomat Automatic GMT 40’s dial, comes in blued color has a sophisticated sunray finish, accentuated by 18k red gold-plated Eastern Arabic numerals and a date window at 6 o'clock. The 18k red gold-plated hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability.
