A Limited Edition in Collaboration with Tezuka Productions Celebrating The Japanese Anime
Breitling has partnered with Tezuka Productions to introduce a limited-edition Avenger B01 Chronograph 44 featuring Astro Boy, the iconic and beloved cartoon character from one of the most celebrated works by the late Osamu Tezuka. This special edition preserves the bold, utilitarian DNA of the Avenger collection while seamlessly integrating Astro Boy into the design with strong visual impact.
Astro Boy was first introduced in 1952 by Osamu Tezuka and remains, to this day, a timeless symbol of courage, optimism, and strength. In parallel, the Breitling Avenger was launched in 2000 to meet the demands of aviation under extreme conditions, establishing itself as a robust and reliable instrument for pilots and adventurers, defined by its solid construction and uncompromising performance.
This is not Astro Boy’s first appearance in the world of watchmaking, having previously featured in a notable collaboration with Louis Erard. This latest partnership, however, places the iconic character within the context of a true tool chronograph, blending pop-culture heritage with Breitling’s technical philosophy.
The watch is housed in a 44 mm stainless-steel case with a thickness of 15.2 mm, equipped with square chronograph pushers and a screw-locked crown, and offering water resistance up to 300 metres. The unidirectional bezel, also crafted from brushed stainless steel, features a prominent luminescent dot at 12 o’clock. The applied Arabic numerals, hour markers, and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, emitting a green glow in low-light conditions. The sapphire crystal caseback is printed with a dedicated Astro Boy illustration, alongside an engraving indicating the watch’s limitation to 99 pieces.
The vivid yellow dial—an iconic Breitling colour—evokes the fiery thrust of Astro Boy’s rocket-powered boots. At 9 o’clock, the small-seconds sub-dial features Astro Boy captured mid-launch, rendered with meticulous attention to detail, from his spiky hair to his red boots and determined expression. Features a black rehaut, add visual depth, while the red-tipped chronograph seconds hand reinforces the watch’s dynamic character.
The dial features black chronograph counters arranged in a tri-compax configuration: small seconds at 9 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6, and a 30-minute counter at 3. The applied hour indices and central hands are coated with white Super-LumiNova.
Powering the watch is Breitling’s in-house Caliber 01, an automatic chronograph movement certified by COSC, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Renowned for its reliability and precision, the movement features a column wheel and vertical clutch, ensuring smooth and accurate chronograph operation.
Limited to just 99 pieces, the Breitling Avenger B01 Chronograph 44 Astro Boy is available exclusively through the brand’s official website and a select number of Breitling boutiques in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Macau. Each watch is engraved “ONE OF 99” and delivered in a specially designed Astro Boy presentation box. The timepiece is priced at USD 7,775, equivalent to approximately AED 28,600.
