The Dive Watch Now in Its Smallest Size Available in Steel, Titanium, and Red Gold
Last week, Blancpain introduced two new Fifty Fathoms Automatique models in a 38 mm size, a first for the iconic dive watch. Initially presented as feminine editions, the brand now continues its momentum with the release of more classically styled references in the same compact diameter. Offered in stainless steel, grade 23 titanium, and 18 ct red gold, and available with sunburst blue or black dials, these new additions enhance the line’s versatility and appeal to a broader audience.
Blancpain’s strategy to reduce the size of the Fifty Fathoms collection began last year with the launch of its first permanent 42 mm models. Previously, the range was primarily available in 45 mm, with only a few 42 mm versions offered as limited or special editions.
Now, the brand is taking a further step by introducing even smaller 38 mm models, while maintaining the collection’s signature aesthetic and technical integrity.
The new 38.20 mm case is available in three distinct materials: polished stainless steel, satin-brushed grade 23 titanium, and 18 ct red gold. Each version measures 12.00 mm in thickness and features a 19 mm lug width, dimensions shared with the recently launched feminine models.
Despite the reduced size, these 38 mm models remain true diving instruments, equipped with a unidirectional bezel featuring a domed sapphire insert in black or blue, a screw-down crown with lateral protection, a solid screw-down caseback, and an impressive water resistance of 300 metres.

The dials continue the line’s refined visual identity. The titanium and red gold models are offered with a sunburst blue dial, while the stainless steel version features a classic black sunburst finish.
Additionally, the more decorative mother-of-pearl dégradé dials, introduced last week in pink and smoky black, offer a refined feminine touch.
Oversized luminescent hour markers are framed in red or white gold, depending on the case material, and paired with Super-LumiNova-filled hands for optimal legibility in low-light and underwater conditions. A discreet date window is positioned at 4:30.
Powering these models is the in-house Blancpain Calibre 1150. Composed of 210 components, this automatic movement operates at 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and provides an exceptional 100-hour power reserve, thanks to its twin-barrel configuration. In comparison, the larger 42 mm and 45 mm editions are fitted with the Calibre 1315, which uses three barrels.
The Calibre 1150 also includes a silicon balance spring, offering enhanced resistance to magnetic fields. Visible through a sapphire crystal caseback, the movement is finely decorated and fitted with an 18 ct gold rotor coated in NAC (Nickel Anthracite Coating), a subtle homage to early Fifty Fathoms models. Although the 3 Hz frequency is lower than the standard 4 Hz seen in many modern sports watches, it is a deliberate choice in favor of extended autonomy, a technical aspect previously explored in detail in this article.
A wide range of straps and bracelets is available, including tropic rubber, sail-canvas, NATO, and three-link metal bracelets in stainless steel or titanium. The metal bracelets alternate between satin-brushed and polished finishes, while strap options are offered with either pin buckles or deployant clasps. This variety significantly influences the final price of each model.
Price Range:
Grade 23 Titanium Edition: From 15,000 to 16,600 CHF (approx. AED 67,050 to AED 74,200), depending on strap or bracelet
Stainless Steel Edition: From 14,000 to 16,300 CHF (approx. AED 62,600 to AED 72,960), depending on strap or bracelet
18 ct Red Gold Edition: From 25,600 to 28,500 CHF (approx. AED 114,430 to AED 127,460), depending on buckle type
