Introducing The New Brellum Duobox Triple Calendar Moonphase with a Salmon Dial
Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
A watch with a classic and bold design that has become Raketa's most prominent release
Raketa is a storied watch manufacturer that holds a significant place in horological history, particularly during the Soviet era, when it operated as one of the largest and most consistent watch factories. In recent years, Raketa has undergone a remarkable revival, embracing its rich heritage to produce uniquely original designs that resonate with modern watch enthusiasts.
Today, we are reviewing Raketa's most iconic Soviet-era catalog watch, the Big Zero that has caught our eyes for its classic and bold design. This watch features a striking black and white dial with oversized numerals, crowned with a prominent 0.
The design is not only functional but also exudes a radical simplicity that has captivated the hearts of watch collectors globally. According to veteran designers from Raketa, the inspiration behind the Big Zero's bold design stems from the logical notion that time, like all beginnings, starts from zero. The design of the "Big Zero" originated around the mid-1980s, and was seen in the brands catalogs in gold and chrome. Additionally, there is a pocket watch matching the "Big Zero" design, also dated back to 1986.
The Big Zero gained international fame when Mikhail Gorbachev, the Secretary General of the USSR, used it as a symbol during an international political summit in Italy. When asked to explain "Perestroika”, referring to the restructuring of the political and economic systems of the Soviet Union. Gorbachev pointed to his Raketa Big Zero watch and explained, “It’s like on my watch: the Soviet people want to start everything from zero.” This play of words and statement captured the imagination of the public and the press, cementing the Big Zero's status as a legendary design in the watchmaking world.
