Calligrapher Wissam Shawkat Adds a Unique Touch to the Classic Watch
The Fortress Collection marked the first design unveiled by Beda'a last year, heralding a new era for the Qatari brand. With its classic rectangular case, the watch proudly draws inspiration from Arabic culture, reflecting the resilient and intricate architectural elements of fortresses.
As Watches and Wonders, the world's biggest watch event, unfolds, Beda'a revisits its celebrated Fortress design. Following the successful 2024 release, the brand has returned to the drawing board, dreaming up fresh and exciting ways to present the Fortress in a manner that embodies its ever-evolving and ever-creative spirit.
Maintaining its distinctive case design, the Fortress Collection features a classic rectangular-shaped case crafted from high-quality stainless steel, measuring 37.5 mm by 28 mm. With a slim profile of just 6.8 mm, it sits elegantly on the wrist. The case is meticulously brushed and polished, topped with sapphire crystal and adorned with a decorated crown engraved with the brand's iconic letter 'B.'
In a significant design evolution, the Eastern Arabic numerals have been replaced with the more globally recognized Arabic numerals, making the watch more accessible to a broader audience. Notably, these new numerals were designed by internationally renowned artist Wissam Shawkat, who collaborated closely with the Beda'a team to create a visually striking dial. The wild, flowing numerals contrast beautifully with the strong, sharp lines of the case, offering a refreshed aesthetic.
The new dial features a captivating pattern of rays emanating from the center, converging at the enamel rectangular index alongside the newly imagined numerals by Wissam Shawkat. Three colors will be offered: a metallic gray for a classic and reserved look, a crisp white for a cleaner appearance, and a deep blue designed to turn heads.
Like its predecessors, the watch is powered by the automatic Swiss movement Sellita SW1000, modified to achieve a thin profile befitting a dress watch. It operates at 28,800 Vph (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of 40 hours.

Fortress will come standard with matching Epsom leather straps. However, for those seeking a bolder look, alligator straps with a unique cut that accentuates the strength of the Fortress are also available. The watch is priced at CHF 1,350.
