The Brand’s Baumatic Movement Makes Its Debut in the Collection’s Smallest Size
Baume & Mercier expands its Clifton Baumatic collection with two new references that introduce, for the first time, a 34 mm case size. With this launch, the Maison brings its proprietary Baumatic movement to a more compact diameter traditionally associated with women’s watches, while remaining equally appealing to collectors drawn to restrained proportions.
Until now, the Clifton Baumatic line had been offered exclusively in sizes starting at 39 mm. This new addition reflects Baume & Mercier’s long-standing philosophy of delivering the same level of technical performance and aesthetic refinement to both men’s and women’s timepieces—a vision rooted in the legacy of Paul Mercier, who, since co-founding the brand in 1918, consistently sought to unite elegance and functionality across all creations.
The stainless-steel case features a combination of polished and satin-brushed surfaces and measures 34 mm in diameter with a thickness of 10.5 mm. It is topped by a domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating, while the sapphire caseback—optionally custom-engraved—offers a clear view of the movement within.
Design details remain faithful to the Clifton Baumatic identity, including a discreetly integrated crown and a vintage-inspired dial layout punctuated by a central crosshair, a signature element of Baumatic-powered models. An Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock, a date window at 6 o’clock, and a finely executed pearled minute track complete the composition.
The first reference, the Clifton Baumatic M0A10831, features an écru grainé dial paired with applied trapezoidal indexes and alpha-shaped hands in a warm 5N gold tone. The second version, the Clifton Baumatic M0A10833, stands out with a gradient blue lacquered dial, fading from a lighter centre to a darker outer edge, complemented by rhodium-finished indexes and hands.
Powering both models is the Baumatic BM13-1975A automatic calibre, here making its debut in the 34 mm case size. Developed and produced in-house, the movement is visible through the transparent sapphire caseback and offers impressive technical credentials, including resistance to magnetic fields up to 1,500 gauss, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and an extended power reserve of 120 hours, or five days.
The movement finishing includes perlage-decorated bridges, a sandblasted and snailed main plate, and an openworked oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and circular graining.
Completing the watches are leather straps matched to the dial colours: the blue-dial version is paired with a blue alligator strap, while the écru model comes on a brown leather strap. Both are fitted with curved spring bars and a stainless-steel pin buckle.
The new Clifton Baumatic 34 mm models in stainless steel are priced at EUR 3,550, equivalent to approximately AED 13,700.
