Introducing Awake Launches the Sơn Mài Frosted Leaf

Awake is a contemporary French brand known for combining traditional watchmaking methods with sustainable practices through the use of recyclable materials. Last year, the brand released the Sơn Mài collection, inspired by Vietnamese tradition. Now, Awake is expanding this collection with three new “Frosted Leaf” releases that further explore Vietnamese traditional artistry.

The 39mm case is crafted from recycled 316L stainless steel, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainable watchmaking. The case is sleek, measuring 11.80 mm in thickness, with a lug-to-lug length of 45 mm, ensuring a comfortable fit on most wrists. The lugs feature subtle engraved icons, a fish and an anvil, that reference Awake’s water resistance and recycled material hallmarks. Speaking of which, the watch offers 50 meters of water resistance. A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement inside.

Each dial is a 15-hour artistic endeavor, beginning with Rhus Verniciflua tree sap lacquer layered with black pigment, silver leaf, and natural dyes. The brand introduces a new “Frosted Leaf” technique, where a second silver layer is added and gently sanded by hand to reveal depth and reflection. The final result is a deep, luminous, and organic texture unique to each piece.

The Green dial evokes life and vegetal richness, the Blue recalls open skies and oceans, and the Moka version connects with grounded, earthy tones. All three are paired with faceted steel hands and hour markers tipped with Super-LumiNova BGW9, shaped into polished glaive points.

Powering each timepiece is the La Joux-Perret G101, a Swiss-made automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offers a 68-hour power reserve. The movement features a tungsten rotor and a laser-engraved “Clous de Paris” motif ring.

The brand partnered with DELUGS to create a light gray nubuck strap lined with black rubber for comfort and durability. The 20x16 mm strap features tone-on-tone stitching, a recycled steel pin buckle, and presto spring bars. Each variant is limited to just 50 pieces and priced at €2,150, approximately AED 8,900.
