A Golden Case Adds a Touch of Luxury to One of the Brand’s Most Significant Technical Achievements
Launched by Armin Strom at the end of 2019 to celebrate the brand’s tenth anniversary, the Gravity Equal Force marked a milestone as the first automatic watch to feature a patented equal-force transmission integrated into the mainspring barrel. Now, the collection welcomes a luxurious addition with a new rose gold case, joining the existing steel and titanium editions.
The rose gold case retains the same design and dimensions as previous versions, with a diameter of 41 mm and a thickness of 12.65 mm. Water-resistant to 30 meters, the case is designed with slim lugs and a refined bezel that maximize visibility of the architectural movement from every angle.
The dial is open-worked, revealing the movement’s intricate mechanics. The base plate is adorned with a guilloché-engraved pattern inspired by the geometric motifs found on knife scales, hand-executed by Kari Voutilainen’s renowned dial atelier, Comblémine, and finished with a brown PVD coating.
Positioned at 9 o’clock, the off-centered dial is made from grey sapphire crystal. Complementing it are rhodium-plated hour and minute hands, crafted in-house and filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility in low-light conditions. A small seconds sub-dial appears between 7 and 8 o’clock.
On the right-hand side of the dial, three finger-style bridges, reminiscent of those found in traditional pocket watches, support the barrel at 5 o’clock and the unidirectionally winding micro-rotor at 1 o’clock. These bridges are hand-finished with meticulous attention to detail, a process that takes up to a full day for each one.
The transparent caseback offers a full view of the automatic ASB19 caliber, developed and manufactured entirely in-house by Armin Strom. Beating at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour), it delivers a power reserve of 72 hours.
At the heart of the movement lies the innovative barrel mechanism that delivers constant force to the balance wheel, hence the name Gravity Equal Force. This technical solution has been explained in greater detail in our previous coverage of the earlier editions.
The watch is fitted with a nubuck leather strap featuring beige stitching and secured with a rose gold pin buckle. Limited to just 20 pieces per year, it is priced at CHF 39,400, equivalent to AED 176,985.
