Patek Philippe Unveils a Unique Steel Edition in Support of Charity
The iconic Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 in stainless steel is making a celebrated comeback, This marks the third time Patek has reintroduced the sought-after Nautilus 5711 since announcing the model’s discontinuation in January 2021. Patek Philippe presents a unique piece, reference 5711/1500A, a one-of-a-kind, hand-engraved masterpiece that the brand has donated to the Children Action Gala auction, scheduled for November 25, 2024.
This legendary sports watch, with its integrated steel bracelet, was discontinued in January 2021 but has returned to the spotlight, just days after the excitement surrounding the new Cubitus collection—Patek’s first entirely new collection in 25 years.
Patek Philippe’s reputation for commanding record prices at auctions is well-known, with the brand consistently achieving landmark results. Its watches hold the top spots for the most expensive watches ever sold at auction, including the first and third positions, and are prominently featured across the top ten.
The Children Action Gala was founded in 1994 by Swiss businessman Bernard Sabrier. Based in Geneva, this organization is dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children worldwide, having helped over 215,000 children to date. The biennial gala includes a charity auction where select pieces are sold to support the foundation’s mission. Patek Philippe has been a committed supporter of this event since 2005, contributing extraordinary timepieces, including this unique Nautilus 5711, likely marking the final production of this historic reference.
This special edition features a stainless steel case, bezel, and bracelet hand-engraved with motifs inspired by the Māori people, the indigenous people of New Zealand, making it the first hand-engraved Nautilus by the brand. The bracelet, with polished center links, is secured with a steel folding clasp. The sapphire crystal caseback bears the inscription “Children Action 2024.”
The dark grey dial showcases the signature horizontally embossed Nautilus pattern, accented with applied hour indices and baton hands coated in white luminescent material. A date window is positioned at 3 o’clock.
Powering this exceptional piece is the in-house automatic Caliber 26-330 S C, which also drives the new Cubitus Day-Date. This movement includes 212 components and 30 jewels, with a 21-karat gold central rotor, finely beveled and engraved for added elegance.
In keeping with the Nautilus’s iconic integrated bracelet design, the hand-engraved bracelet further enhances the watch’s exclusivity. Additionally, this piece comes with a matching set of engraved steel cufflinks a rare offering, as Patek Philippe typically only produces cufflinks in gold.
This extraordinary timepiece will be auctioned by Mr. Aurel Bacs of Phillips Bacs & Russo at approximately 11:00 PM CET on November 25, during the Children Action charity event. All proceeds from the sale will be directed toward the foundation’s initiatives to improve the lives of children around the world.
