Featuring a Pink Dial Inspired by 1960s Desert Camouflage Patterns
Founded in 2018 and officially launched in 2022, Aera is a modern watchmaker rooted in the tradition of purposeful design. Each collection reflects Aera’s dedication to utility, precision, and thoughtful detail, drawing inspiration from military, aviation, diving, and field watch heritage.
In its latest release, Aera has unveiled the M‑1 Dune, a military-inspired field watch distinguished by its unique dial. Finished in a dusty pink tone, the color is drawn from a 1960s desert camouflage scheme once used by the British Special Air Service (SAS). For covert operations, SAS units would paint their Land Rovers in this pink hue, which was said to make them nearly invisible against the sand dunes at dusk and dawn. The M‑1 Dune takes direct inspiration from this concept, offering an adaptive and historically grounded aesthetic tailored to desert environments.

The M‑1 Dune features a 39mm case crafted from 904L stainless steel, a high-grade alloy superior to the more commonly used 316L. The case measures 47.6mm lug-to-lug, 13.14mm in thickness. It includes a screw-down crown and a satin circular brushed 904L bezel, complementing the robust tool-watch aesthetic. The screw-in caseback, also in 904L steel, is engraved with key specifications and paired with matching serial numbers on both the caseback and the underside of the bottom-right lug. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters, making it suitable for everyday wear in a variety of conditions.

The M‑1 Dune’s dial is a one-piece dished design finished in a distinctive dusty pink, inspired by desert camouflage. It features large numerals and the Aera logo, both hand-applied from solid blocks of Globolight, providing exceptional luminosity and contrast. A white railroad track encircles the dial, with grey 12 o’clock indexes for added clarity. At the 6 o’clock position, there is a small seconds indicator set within a recessed sub-dial, adding functional depth to the design.
The sword-shaped hands are lacquered in grey and meticulously hand-filled with Grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova, matching the lume on the crown pip for enhanced low-light visibility.
The watch is powered by the Sellita SW216-1 manual-winding movement, an Elabore grade caliber. Operating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), it offers a smooth sweep of the seconds hand and features hacking seconds for precise time-setting. The movement maintains a tolerance of +/- 7 to +/- 15 seconds per day and provides a 42-hour power reserve.
It comes with two integrated straps crafted from charcoal grey suede. Additionally, owners receive a third strap of their choice. This limited edition is capped at 300 pieces worldwide. The watch is priced at GBP 1,600 which is equivalent to AED 7,900 approximately.
