A Fusion of Design Mastery and Mechanical Innovation for a Distinctive Time Display
Six years after A. Lange & Söhne debuted the Zeitwerk Date in white gold, the brand now introduces this remarkable timepiece in pink gold. Featuring its signature grey dial, the watch elegantly showcases the mechanical digital time display, driven by the patented jumping numerals mechanism, which advances the numeral discs precisely 1,440 times per day. This distinctive design, a hallmark of the German manufacture, even seen in more complex versions like the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater presents time in a uniquely mechanical way.
At the heart of the watch’s aesthetics is the time bridge, crafted from untreated German silver and rhodium-plated for a refined finish. Positioned prominently at the center of the dial, this bridge is among the most striking design elements of the Zeitwerk family.
Integrated as part of the movement itself, it frames the digital time display and the subsidiary seconds dial, creating an immediate visual link between the watch’s technical inner workings and its sophisticated exterior.
The Zeitwerk Date features a brushed and polished pink gold case, measuring 44.2 mm in diameter and 12.3 mm in height. The crown at 2 o’clock allows for manual winding and time setting, while a pusher at 8 o’clock enables independent correction of the date. The watch is equipped with sapphire crystal on both the front and back, and offers a water resistance of 30 meters.
The signature grey dial is complemented by the rhodium-plated silver time bridge, which elegantly presents the jumping hours on the left and the jumping minutes on the right, both displayed on a white background with black Arabic numerals. Additional design elements include golden hands, a small seconds subdial at the base of the time bridge, and a power reserve indicator located at 12 o’clock. Surrounding the dial is a peripheral date ring, a transparent glass disc displaying numerals from 1 to 31, with the current date highlighted in red via a subtle red segment that advances smoothly at midnight.
Powering the Zeitwerk Date is the manufacture calibre L043.8, a manually wound movement beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz). Equipped with a twin barrel and two mainsprings, it delivers a robust 72-hour power reserve. Comprising 516 components, the movement is meticulously hand-finished and assembled by the skilled artisans in the Saxon manufacture’s atelier.
A key technical innovation is the patented constant-force escapement, which fulfills two critical functions. Acting as a remontoir, it ensures consistent energy delivery to the balance wheel throughout the power reserve by using the mainspring’s energy to tension a secondary spring that drives the escapement. Simultaneously, it controls the precisely timed, once-per-minute advancement of the three-disc jumping numerals display.
The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Date in pink gold is paired with a dark brown alligator leather strap, secured by a 750 pink gold prong buckle. Priced at EUR 130,000 which is equivalent to 561,200 AED.
