Introducing A. Lange & Söhne Presents the Latest Addition to the 1815 Tourbillon Collection

A. Lange & Söhne has unveiled a new version of its 1815 Tourbillon. Originally introduced in 2014, the 1815 Tourbillon now returns in a striking new edition, housed in a platinum case and paired with a glossy black grand feu enamel dial. Limited to just 50 pieces, this release joins the two existing models in the collection: one in platinum with a white dial, and another in red gold with a silvered dial.

At six o’clock, the one-minute tourbillon rotates to counteract the effects of gravity on the balance. What distinguishes this model is its integration of both stop-seconds and zero-reset mechanisms, enabling the tourbillon cage to halt completely and the seconds hand to reset precisely to zero when the crown is pulled. This feature allows the watch to be set with absolute accuracy—a rarity for a tourbillon.

Crafted in 950 platinum, the case measures 39.5 mm in diameter and 11.3 mm in height, maintaining a refined and slim profile despite the complexity of its movement.

The dial reflects the traditions of classical artisanal watchmaking. Produced entirely in-house at the manufactory in Glashütte, the deep black grand feu enamel dial requires extraordinary skill. From preparing the solid white-gold base to grinding pigments, applying enamel layers, repeated firings, and painstaking finishing, each dial undergoes more than 100 individual steps over several weeks.

The circular tourbillon aperture is manually bevelled, demanding exceptional precision to preserve the delicate enamel surface. White Arabic numerals and a railway-style minute track connect the design to the 1815 family and the 19th-century pocket watches that inspire it.

Turning the watch over, the sapphire caseback reveals the hand-finished calibre L102.1. The movement showcases Lange’s signature three-quarter plate in untreated German silver, gold chatons, a screw balance, and a hand-engraved balance cock here forming part of the seconds bridge. 

These elements echo the brand’s pocket watches of more than 150 years ago. A diamond endstone, a historic hallmark of quality, further elevates the calibre. Beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph, the movement offers a power reserve of 72 hours.

The calibre also incorporates Lange’s patented Zero-Reset mechanism, an impressive achievement in a tourbillon. Pulling the crown stops the seconds hand and instantly returns it to zero, allowing precise time setting. Pushing the crown back resumes the movement seamlessly.

As with all Lange calibres, the movement is assembled twice and decorated by hand to the manufacture’s uncompromising standards.

The new 1815 Tourbillon is fitted with a black alligator leather strap secured by a platinum deployant clasp. Limited to only 50 pieces, it is available exclusively upon request.
