Christiaan van der Klaauw is a luxury watch brand that was founded in 1974 by the eponymous Dutch watchmaker and astronomer, Christiaan van der Klaauw. The brand is known for its unique watches that are inspired by the celestial world.
Van der Klaauw has been passionate about watches and astronomy from a young age, and he trained as a watchmaker in his native Netherlands. He then went on to study astronomy and gained a deep understanding of the movements of the planets and stars.
Using this knowledge, he began designing watches that incorporate astronomical complications, such as moon phases, star charts, and even miniature planetariums. His watches are highly complex and often feature multiple complications in one timepiece.
The brand's collections include the Real Moon Joure, Planetarium, Astrolabe, and other astronomical-themed watches. The Real Moon Joure features a stunning display of the moon phase, which is achieved through an innovative mechanism developed by Van der Klaauw himself. The watch also includes a perpetual calendar and power reserve indicator, making it both beautiful and functional.
The Planetarium collection showcases the beauty of the solar system on the wrist, with each watch in the collection featuring a miniature representation of the planets in our solar system, along with the sun and moon, all orbiting around a central star.
The Astrolabe collection is inspired by the ancient astronomical instrument of the same name, and includes a wide range of astronomical complications, including sidereal time, star charts, and a map of the stars.
