Welcome to the hub of the horoloy
A new addition to the “Les Cabinotiers” collection with a minute repeater and tourbillon complications
With a founding date of 1755 in Geneva, Switzerland, Vacheron Constantin was established by the skilled independent watchmaker Jean-Marc Vacheron. Distinguished as the world's oldest continuously operating watch manufacturers. Since 1996, it has thrived under the Swiss Richemont Group. Vacheron Constantin's luxury watches showcase exceptional artistic techniques, drawing inspiration from various art forms, history, and culture. With intricate engravings, miniature paintings, and enameling, these timepieces epitomize the fusion of horology and artistic expression with releases that embark on a journey through time.
The Les Cabinotiers department upholds the tradition of crafting timepieces and unveils an annual collection of unique creations. This department, comprising master watchmaking professionals, blends excellence and dedication. Their mission is to translate imaginative dreams into reality, achieving a fusion of technical precision and artistic brilliance where tradition meets innovation. A standout group of watches with unique tourbillons for striking diversity headlines Vacheron Constantin's latest Les Cabinotiers collection, the "Récits de Voyages”, which means “Travel Stories” in english. This ensemble includes two Les Cabinotiers Minute Repeater Tourbillons – “Tribute to Arabesque” and “Tribute to Art Deco” with a minute repeater and tourbillon complications, Alongside them are two tourbillon watches, the Malte Tourbillon pays homage to "Haussmannian Style," while the Armillary Tourbillon salutes "Art Deco Style," showcasing tourbillons in distinct yet captivating ways.
The “Les Cabinotiers Minute Repeater Tourbillon Tribute to Arabesque” exemplifies Vacheron Constantin's dedication to Middle Eastern influences. The watch design draws inspiration from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, featuring intricate engravings reflecting the mosque's architectural richness. The dial, inspired by Mashrabiya’s pattern were simple geometric shapes, or calligraphy designs from the Quran, showcases white gold lattice-work on a black background. For the first time, Vacheron Constantin unveils its maiden dial merging wood marquetry and champlevé enamel techniques. Crafting this exceptional dial demanded precision as the marquetry artisan delicately cut 110 small wood veneers with an engraving process taking a month to complete. This timepiece resides in an 18K white gold case measuring 44 mm in diameter and 13.5 mm thickness, it comes with an alligator leather strap secured by a white gold folding clasp engraved with arabesques. The watch is powered by the manual winding 2755 TMR movement that merges the melodic allure of a minute repeater, signaled by a sidepiece on the case middle, with the precision of a Maltese cross-shaped tourbillon regulator.
By the early 20th century, Vacheron Constantin had firmly established itself in America. Notably, New York's skyline evolved with the rise of Art Deco-style skyscrapers, epitomized by the iconic Chrysler Building. Celebrating this architectural marvel, the “Les Cabinotiers Minute Repeater Tourbillon Tribute to Art Deco Style” watch features blue wood marquetry inspired by cloisonné enameling with ‘pearl’ minutes track, and markers that are made from 11 faced diamonds which decrease in size as they reach 12 o’clock. This artistic creation, a first for Vacheron Constantin, intricately combines metal and wood in a nod to the Chrysler Building's gleaming spire and ornate elevators. The high-precision craftsmanship includes marquetry, gem setting, and line engraving on the 18K 5N pink gold case, that measures 44mm in diameter, and 13.5mm in thickness, complemented by an alligator leather strap secured by a folding clasp adorned with geometrical motifs, and powered by the 2755 TMR that holds in a minute repeater and a tourbillon.
Vacheron Constantin opted for a highly architectural and three-dimensional skeletonized design, expertly executed by a master engraver. The movement and case underwent sculpting, drawing inspiration from Haussmann-type façades and the intricate metal structures of the Eiffel Tower. This 150-hour task enhanced the tonneau-shaped watch, already reminiscent of Parisian chic with its harmonious curves. The tonneau shape is part of Vacheron Constantin's heritage since its introduction in 1912, a signature of the Malte collection, reimagined a century later, showcasing the Maison's creative freedom in a watchmaking world often tethered to classic round conventions. The 18K 5N pink gold case measures 41.5 x 38 mm in diameter, and 12.7 mm in thickness. The case features a circular-grained bezel and caseback with engraved gadroons, and concave gadroons on the lugs. The case middle stands out with a bas-relief lion sculpture surrounded by frieze art. The engraver employs the champlevé enamel technique in which hollows made in a metal surface are filled with coloured enamels for precise volumes, resulting in a depth effect that requires delicate polishing. The final touch includes fine chasing on the base, executed point by point, accentuating contrasts and illuminating the shimmering decoration. Powering the watch is the manual-winding Calibre 2790 SQ by Vacheron Constantin, introduced in 2014, an ultra-thin movement at just 6.1 mm thick. Despite its intricacy, with 246 components, including a tourbillon regulator. The entirely skeletonized movement is a testament to its architectural and three-dimensional decoration, showcasing the Maison's commitment to both technical excellence and aesthetic innovation.
The “Les Cabinotiers Armillary Tourbillon Tribute to Art Deco Style” watch, a unique piece within the Les Cabinotiers Récits de Voyages collection, encapsulates Vacheron Constantin's longstanding spirit. Marking its presence in the Americas. The timepiece comes in a yellow gold case that boasts a 45 mm diameter and 20.10 mm thickness. The bas-relief engraving on the case middle, lugs, and movement components, complemented by guilloche-work and hand engravings, shocasing Art Deco-inspired motifs reminiscent of early 20th-century New York skyscraper ornamentation. Driven by the Calibre 1990, the in-house movement features an open architecture conducive to intricate finishing, engraving, and guilloché work. The watch displays hours and minutes with bi-retrograde instant-return hands, accompanied by small seconds on the dual-axis tourbillon that is positioned at 9 o'clock beneath a bubble formed by the sapphire crystal. Notably, this marks the first instance of Vacheron Constantin applying this level of engraving to the Calibre 1990 movement.
